Gum Health – The Foundation of a Healthy Mouth and a Beautiful Smile

Periodontics is the branch of dentistry focused on the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of diseases affecting the gums and the supporting structures of the teeth. If left untreated, these conditions may lead to tooth loss and have been associated with broader systemic health implications.

What Are Gingivitis and Periodontitis?

  • Gingivitis
  • The earliest and mildest form of periodontal disease, caused by the accumulation of bacterial plaque. It is characterized by redness, bleeding, and mild swelling of the gums. Gingivitis is fully reversible with appropriate treatment and proper oral hygiene.

  • Periodontitis
  • A more advanced stage of periodontal disease, in which inflammation extends deeper, leading to the progressive destruction of the supporting tissues and bone around the teeth. If untreated, it may result in tooth mobility and eventual tooth loss.

Personalized Periodontal Treatment Plan

At Odontia – Digital and Cosmetic Dentistry, each patient is treated according to their individual clinical needs. Periodontal therapy is always tailored and may include:

  • Clinical examination and periodontal pocket charting
  • Radiographic assessment to evaluate bone loss
  • Professional ultrasonic cleaning and instrumentation
  • Deep scaling and root planing to remove subgingival plaque and calculus
    • Supplementary use of laser (laser-assisted periodontal therapy) for targeted disinfection of periodontal pockets, reduction of inflammation, and enhancement of tissue healing.
  • Ongoing reassessment and monitoring of periodontal health

Laser-Assisted Periodontal Therapy

As part of modern periodontal treatment, our clinic incorporates laser technology as an integral component of the therapeutic process, where clinically indicated. Laser-assisted periodontal therapy contributes to the targeted disinfection of periodontal pockets, reduction of inflammation, and faster, more comfortable healing of the tissues.
